Gonzalo Garcia has become the breakout star for Real Madrid at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, emerging as the tournament’s top scorer. While showcasing his talent on the international stage, the president of a European club revealed that his side already has an agreement in place for the promising Spanish striker.

With Kylian Mbappe sidelined due to acute gastroenteritis, Garcia was thrust into the spotlight as Madrid’s auxiliary forward. The 21-year-old has stepped up brilliantly, scoring four goals and providing one assist, becoming a vital player in Real Madrid’s push to the semifinals of the competition.

Despite Garcia’s rise, Getafe president Angel Torres confirmed that his club had reached a pre-existing agreement with Real Madrid to bring in the young forward. During the unveiling of Getafe’s new kits for the 2025–26 season, Torres addressed the potential move.

We have an agreement with Gonzalo. There was a commitment that, as long as he didn’t stay at Real Madrid, he could come here. This is an agreement from a month and a half ago with both the club and his agent. But given how the kid is performing… I’m hopeful. If Gonzalito comes, he’d be a big help,” said Angel Torres to the press.

Garcia isn’t the only player on Getafe’s radar. Torres also revealed the club’s interest in Víctor Muñoz, who is currently participating in the Club World Cup. “We have a commitment with Víctor Muñoz, but he’s at the Club World Cup. And there’s another player who played last season for Real Valladolid,” added Torres.

Gonzalo Garcia’s future poses new dilemma for Real Madrid

Garcia’s sudden emergence on the big stage—particularly in a high-stakes tournament like the Club World Cup—has complicated Real Madrid’s squad plans for the 2025–26 season. Head coach Xabi Alonso still views Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior as the main attacking duo, potentially leaving Garcia back on the bench.

Garcia also faces internal competition from Endrick, the €45 million signing who is pushing for minutes in a crowded forward line. With limited opportunities available, Real Madrid will soon have to decide whether to keep Garcia in the squad, loan him out, or consider a permanent transfer. The striker has a €50 million release clause.
